Basement Tips
Smoke Detectors Don't Like Dust
Adding fire protection to your basement is a great idea (in fact, it's recommended in the national fire code). Keep in mind that smoke detectors constantly test samples of the air to look for "particulates" (such as smoke).
The problem is that smoke detectors can have trouble distinguishing from heavy dust and smoke. So, in dusty areas where you want to add fire protection (like unfinished basements or garages), you should consider a Heat Sensor.
These sensors are great for detecting both a rapid rise in heat and also a high fixed temperature. But they won't result in false alarms caused by heavy dust.
Burglar Protection in Basements
Basements without exterior doors or windows, would not be typical target area for burglars.
However, if you have any access doors leading down to your basement, then consider adding a Door or Window Sensor.
And, if you have accessible windows, at garden level or in window wells, they may best be protected by either a Motion Sensor or Glass Break Sensor, both of which can cover larger areas with multiple windows.
