Alarm Company Review Sites – Add One More Good Site to the List

As more people shop online and use the Internet to research companies for the hard facts on product reliability and customer satisfaction, review sites have flourished. I’ve posted on the growth and importance of alarm company review sites before – and wrote recently about an alarm company warning issued by the granddaddy of review sites – the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Today you can check online reviews for just about any company: even the ones who knock on your door, offering a deal you cannot refuse – and it’s always smart to do your homework before you buy.

Complaints Say a Lot

A couple of my favorite sites (other than BBB) are complaints.com and ripoffreport.com, and I just discovered another one today: consumer affairs.com. This site is a great addition to the reviews list, since they have plenty of good info on alarm companies, including some great advice on how to deal with “door knockers” selling alarms. At any of these sites, all you have to do is type in the name of the company you want to research, and the results come back in a flash. Youmay want to be sitting down to read some of them - it's hard to make this stuff up!

BBB Stats on Alarm Company Complaints

For example, on the BBB site, you can research and compare companies based on complaints received in the last 36 months. I picked four nationwide alarm companies in business for that period, and here are the results:

Now, you might expect ADT would have more complaints, because they are so big – but clearly they have some unhappy customers – and some service issues. Vivint/APX is a “door knocker” alarm company, so high-pressure sales are often the problem: plus, further research show that they have gotten in trouble with many states for fraudulent and deceptive practices, or licensing issues. Protect America is only a small fraction as big as ADT, but has about one third as many complaints: that really tells you something about the company’s level of customer satisfaction – not good. And FrontPoint, with only four complaints in three years as a nationwide service provider, clearly must be doing something right.

You may have found your own great review sites – if so, please let me know, and I’ll spread the word. The good news is that these sites are objective, credible, and not subject to abuse, which makes them all the more useful. And I should mention that if you search for “FrontPoint” at any of the three complaint sites mentioned above (in addition to BBB), you won’t find us there -meaning no complaints on record. I searched many websites (including googling "FrontPoint Security complaints" and was really impressed by the results. This was the main reason we chose to go with your service earlier this year. I have to say that your customer service is fantastic and I couldn't find a place that could bet the price we paid for our system from you guys. Keep up the great work...We LOVE your service and recommend FrontPoint often. :-)

Having the best reviews in the alarm industry was not something that we set out to achieve - but I can say that our outstanding reputation has been a welcome product of our transparency, value proposition, and commitment to being the best service provider we can be. Stay away from ADT. They disabled my entire system after I fulfilled my three year monitoring service contrary to what I was fold when system installed and what their customer service reps tell you now if you are a new customer. Unless you intend to use ADT until you die go with another company
