Everything Home Security: The Rise of DIY
It wasn’t that long ago when having a professional installation for a home alarm system was still the norm. Today, that’s no longer the case. Do-it-yourself (DIY) installations have quickly gained ground and have become a popular choice for customers.
Reasons for the Shift
What transpired that led to the rise of the DIY installation for home alarm systems?
To begin, there previously weren’t many options other than to have a professional come to your home to do the installation. Alarm systems were hardwired, which required drilling into your home’s walls and configuring a bunch of wires. Self-installation was only an option for the select few who were comfortable performing that kind of labor.
All things DIY became popular in the past few years and the concept found its way into the home alarm industry. Reservations about DIY – fears of messing up – began to dissipate, as a growing library of online videos and guides allowed customers to follow step-by-step instructions.
Customers also realized that self-installing a home alarm system wasn’t difficult to do, and that it was significantly cheaper and more convenient. No longer did they have sit around waiting all day for a technician to show up. There was also no need to have a stranger come into their home and best of all, there were no more ridiculous installation fees to deal with.
Finally, the growth in the use of cellular technology also played a huge role in the rise of the DIY alarm system. Cellular systems do not require any kind of hardwiring, meaning there’s absolutely no need for a professional installation. And let’s not forget, wires make for a weaker alarm system.
Do-It-Yourself Protection
From the very beginning, Frontpoint has offered only DIY alarm systems with cellular monitoring. The way we look at it is like this: Why bother with a professional installation when it’s more expensive and more inconvenient? Not to mention that it probably means you’ll be receiving an outdated system relying on a hardwired connection. DIY is just plain better.
