It feels like yesterday I was writing about the endless winter snow
and yet somehow, here we are on the first official day of summer.
And it’s already been a scorcher – the past few days in the DC Metro area have been unbearably hot, with the temperatures rising to the upper 90s. The heat, combined with the area’s notorious humidity, have made it just plain unpleasant to be outside -- for most people, at least.
In my personal opinion, being hot and sweaty is better than being cold and numb, and I for one plan on embracing the sun’s warmth to the fullest! Here’s how I plan on spending this summer – and how you can do the same.

Okay, it’s probably a safe bet that I won’t be going to any of these luxurious destinations, but it doesn’t matter – I can close my eyes and pretend. Whether it’s the beach or the pool, I’m going to dive into a body of water and stay in it until I turn into a wrinkly prune. If you’re going to the beach or pool this summer, don’t forget to wear sunblock!
I love reading and quite frankly, I have a lot of catching up to do. Whether it’s on the beach, on my deck or in my bed, I will be turning pages. Choose a book from this must-read list, or if you’re like me and prefer a good dose of science fiction and fantasy, GoodReads put together an extensive list.
Is there a better summer combination than good food and a road trip? If you find one, please show me because it must be nothing short of amazing. I’ll be using this fancy map to not only plan my road trip route, but to also show me TV-featured restaurants along the way.

It’s inevitable that the heat will be too unbearable on certain days, forcing me to stay inside – and I’m perfectly fine with that. There’s a bunch of TV shows I need to watch, which I usually do using my tablet. If you’re inclined to do the same, grab one of these top-rated tablets, slouch in a couch and relax.

Camping is not my thing, it’s a little too outdoor-sy for me. On the other hand, I’m always up for a good one-day hike. And I really enjoy hiking on trails that aren’t crowded, which is why these 43 hidden hikes sound like the perfect options for me.
