The New Wireless Outdoor Camera

Say hello to the new Frontpoint Wireless Outdoor Camera!

We always want to give you the latest and greatest in technology, and this camera has some exciting new features that make it much more user-friendly. Without further ado, here are a few of the major improvements you’ll see in the new and improved model of the Wireless Outdoor Camera.

Stronger, Yet Lighter Design

The Outdoor Camera has a new look that is significantly different than the prior model. First, it’s been redesigned to be more compact. The camera is also significantly lighter in weight at just 7 ounces (the older model weighed 28.6 ounces!), thanks to the use of a heavy-duty plastic. Despite the drop in weight, the updated model is more durable and has improved weatherproofing.

LED Status Indicators

One of the best new features (in my opinion) is the addition of LED status indicators. These little lights will give you an instant idea of your camera’s status with just a glance, letting you know if there is any issue with your camera or where you are in the setup process.

Simple Setup Process

One of our primary goals is to simplify the home security experience for our customers, so we’ve made the setup process for the Outdoor Camera easier than ever. It’s a simple, intuitive process (don’t worry, instructions are included) that consists of powering the camera on and following a few online steps to pair the camera to your account and system.

Endless Features

Of course, the Outdoor Camera still has many of the powerful features of the old model that you’ve come to know and love:

- High-resolution Live and Recorded Video

- Customizable Video Alerts/Alarm-Triggered Capture

- Mobile App Viewing

- Infrared Night Vision

I checked your website and don't see the new outdoor camera for sale. What is the cost, and where do I find it on the website?

how much per wireless outdoor camera? does it add to monthly subscription cost?

Hi Christy, it's $399.99 and you'll need to be on our Ultimate Monitoring Plan. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

What is the price of this outdoor unit if adding the my system?
Valerie Saponara
March 6, 2015
Larry, great question! Our new Wireless Outdoor Camera is $399.99, and if you do decide to set yourself up with a camera (or a couple) you will need to make sure you are on our Ultimate Monitoring plan which is $49.99/month.

I assume this battery powered. How does it work in cold climates? And what is the expected battery life?
Valerie Saponara
March 13, 2015
Great question Mike! These cameras are not battery powered, but rather powered by an electrical connection. Therefore, these cameras need to be continuously plugged into a power source. The temperature range that these cameras function within is noted here: http://frontpointsecurity.com/equipment-overview/cameras-and-home-automation/outdoor-wireless-camera. Let me know if you need anything else!

How many frames per second does it record? How far (feet) does the night vision "see"? I purchased the older version of outdoor cameras back in November. What are my options as far as those go? Am I able to sell the back to frontpoint? If I sold them on my own to another party are they usable for them?
Valerie Saponara
March 13, 2015
Hi Roy! We currently do not have any older model cameras in stock and we will only be selling these new outdoor cameras going forward. All the spec and details about this new camera and it's capabilities are listed here: http://frontpointsecurity.com/equipment-overview/cameras-and-home-automation/outdoor-wireless-camera. Now, you probably could sell your older outdoor camera elsewhere and someone could get it to integrate with their system, but since we don't know what system these cameras would be added to, we can't say for sure if they would work or not. To answer your last question, although we do look fondly on the time we did use and sell our old outdoor camera, we won't be using them again and can't purchase them back from customers. We do appreciate the offer though! Hope this answered all your questions and let us know if you need anything else.

Can you explain the setup process in more detail? I haven't purchased any of your cameras because I'm confused on if I'll have to run wires into my house and deal with sealing them and running through the attic and all that non-fun stuff.
Valerie Saponara
March 13, 2015
Nick, there are multiple ways to hook up these new outdoor cameras and running them through your attic is fortunately not the only option. We actually have a couple, and when you give us a call to add in your camera we can figure out which method for powering your camera works best for specifically your home. To hook up this new outdoor camera you'll need to do the following: 1) Make sure your WiFi is turned on and you have the WiFi name and password. (Keep an ethernet cable nearby in case your WiFi signal isn't strong enough) 2) Take the camera out of it's box and plug it into a nearby power source. 3) Log onto your MyFrontpoint.com account through a computer at your home. 4) Give us a call and we will walk you through the last couple steps! Hope this helps answer your question, and if not, please let me know and I can have someone reach out to you.

Does this camera utilize WPS (Wifi Protected Setup) for the initial setup?
Valerie Saponara
March 13, 2015
David, yes it does! This is the method of connection we prefer as it is secure and makes integrating your cameras very easy.
David tay
March 15, 2015
Unfortunately, WPS has been found to be a security risk.
David Tay
March 16, 2015
WPS has been proven to be highly insecure and there is software out there that can be used to crack the network security under 4 hours. http://resources.infosecinstitute.com/wi-fi-security-wps/

I just love mobile view IP cameras. I remember way back when this trend started. The IP cameras back then were really difficult to set up. These days you just scan a QC code with your phone and its set up and you can view and control the camera with your mobile phone.

Just curious. I am looking into street cameras for my condo board. Could we use these around our community? Perhaps attaching them to our street lights?
Valerie Saponara
March 13, 2015
Bob cool idea! Right now we do not have street cameras to be used for the public, but a way around this could be that you mount one or two outdoor cameras on the outside of your home facing the street! This way you can still catch a good amount of community activity if you wanted to.

The new, feature rich Frontpoint Wireless Outdoor Camera can be a good way to deter burglars from breaking into your abode. Also it makes easy to see who is coming home, before they are even at the door, and interestingly the camera can trigger recording and send out a mobile alert on sensing movement around the house. Nifty!

I want to monitor my front door entry. Should I point the camera at the door from a roof mount or mount it above the door and point it outward?
Valerie Saponara
March 16, 2015
Kim, smart thinking! To get a very clear image of someone right in front of your door I would suggest you mount a camera to your roof and point it towards your front door. This way no one can crawl underneath the line of sight of your camera and you will be able to see how and when someone knocks on or even touches your front door.

March 20, 2015
Thanks Valerie. If I mount the camera pointing at the door it will be looking at their backside. If I mount it above the door looking outward, it will capture their faces. It seems more convenient for me to mount it to the entry foyer roof overhang and have it pointing directly at the door (their backside). This is the trade I am considering,

I was wondering what the cost is for your camera's., but what the monthly fee would be.
Valerie Saponara
March 16, 2015
Richard, the cost of our new outdoor wireless camera is $399.99. In order to use wireless cameras with your Frontpoint system, you'll need to be on our Ultimate Monitoring Plan which is $49.99 a month. A more detailed list of all our plan prices and options are found here: http://frontpointsecurity.com/plans-overview. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I have a basic system now. How much of an increase in my monthly bill for one camera?
Valerie Saponara
March 16, 2015
Hi Ron! In order to add a camera to your Frontpoint system, you will need to upgrade to our Ultimate Monitoring Plan which is $49.99/month. It is on this plan that you can have cameras, control your lights, locks, and even the thermostat. If you would like more details on this, please check our page on monthly service plans: http://frontpointsecurity.com/plans-overview.

If I am not a member yet, and I sign up with frontpoint and chose to do the ultimate plan and include the cameras, are they still 400 dollars or will they also be rolled into the 100 dollar beginning equipment fee?
Valerie Saponara
March 16, 2015
Great question John! The price of your package will depend on what you add to it, but no you cannot roll an outdoor camera into the basic starter package for a total package price of $100. We always have a couple basic options which you can then customize to your exact needs, therefore, the price of everyone's basic starter package may be different. Once you have completed building your perfectly customized system, we will apply your new customer discount. Hope this helps answer your question!

I am a Frontpoint customer and am considering purchasing 3 wireless cameras (2 outdoor and 1 indoor). In an email from a Frontpoint CSR I was told "you are more than welcome you use another IP based camera service such as drop cam in conjunction with our system. You can also purchase the Alarm.com cameras that work with our system through another vendor if they offer a better price". The cameras you have listed are considerably higher than other retailers. In some instances I can find the same camera you sell for 399, I can find for 299. If I purchase Alarm.com cameras from another vendor like Vivint, will it work with my Frontpoint system?
Valerie Saponara
April 16, 2015
Great question! Technically you could use Alarm.com cameras with our system, even if they are purchased elsewhere, as long as they are the exact models we support/sell currently. Something to note however is that if your cameras are purchased elsewhere they will not be covered by the 3 year warranty that you get with your Frontpoint system. We don't want you to have to worry about finding the model numbers and comparing prices constantly so we're going to have one of our Support Specialists reach out to you shortly to figure out exactly what you'll need to cover your home, and what we can do to help you!

Is there a vandal proof dome camera with POE support available? If people are going to have to drag AC power out to the camera we might as well be doing POE and forget wifi.
Valerie Saponara
April 27, 2015
Mike, great question! At this very moment we do not offer a dome camera with POE support, however, we are going to make sure we forward your suggestion up the chain to our products department for future implementation. We will keep you posted!

What device is used to monitor the video? Can I have it go to my TV or do I need a seperate monitor?
Valerie Saponara

Robert, all your video clips will be directly saved to your MyFrontpoint.com account and you can view these anytime from your computer or smartphone! You can also have these clips sent to you through notifications.

It does look lighter and has wonderful features but is it waterproof? We don't have a roof top where we're planning to put our new surveillance. How long can this Frontpoint Wireless Outdoor Camera last rain or shine?
Valerie Saponara
May 20, 2015
Casey, our outdoor camera is waterproof but make sure where the camera is plugged in is covered, as you don't want to mix electricity with wet conditions. These cameras could last you a very long time and we have customers who have been using the same outdoor camera for 5 years or more, so it all depends on your local weather conditions or where is it being placed. Don't forget, every camera comes with a 3 year warranty!

What is the exchange policy for existing customers with the old outdoor camera? I bought the system for my parents over a year ago, and have had numerous problems with the outdoor cameras. I exchanged them a few times, and they are still too dark during night vision, and they have trouble with motion and clarity at all hours of the day. Can an existing customer exchange the old camera for a newer model since their warranty is not up yet? My older models are under a two year warrant what happens to that for existing customers. I am just wondering what is being done for the existing and loyal customers...do not find it fair that we should pay again for new model if our older model camera is still under the warranty.
Valerie Saponara
May 26, 2015
Michelle, we do not currently have an exchange policy for our older outdoor cameras, however if you're experiencing issues with your current cameras we would be happy to work with them and find out where your problems might be coming from. If you need to have it replaced, we will make sure we do that for you as long as the camera is still under it's warranty. As we are having some trouble finding you in our system at the moment based on the information you provided in your comment, please email us at WeCare@frontpointsecurity.com and we will make sure you're all taken care of!

I absolutely LOVE Frontpoint but I am extremely disappointed that you are not offering 24hour recording. You use Alarm.coms service and they have the SVR to do just this, why not give us access to it!! If someone breaks into my car in the driveway or vandalizes my yard or God forbid sneak up on my wife as she comes home I want to be able to not only go back and view the footage but be able to go back and look for someone suspiciously staking out my house! Even in the event of a burglary and the cameras record everything, if they use masks the event will not be helpful but going back and looking for someone scoping out the house (which most home burglars do) is absolutely key!!!!!! Please add ASAP!

Hi, I'm currently a very satisfied customer with Frontpoint. Your company has provided the security for our home that my wife and I were looking for. I would like to add a Wireless Outdoor Camera but cant seem to find out how far the distance of the sensor will reach out for it to be triggered? Would like to put the camera in the back of the carport so that it covers the entirety plus the front door at the other end......

The outdoor camera is awesome! But I have a hard time configuring the VMD.. Even when I set the sensitivity to 10 and target size to 3%, the camera still misses big movements, like people walking in and out. The camera's wireless signal strength is about ~60%. Do you think if the sensitivity has something to do with the Wifi signal strength?
Katie Rynex
August 19, 2016
Thanks for reaching out Harper! The wireless signal strength does not affect the VMD windows, only camera connectivity. We would love to assist so we will have one of our Support Specialist reach out to you as soon as possible! We look forward to speaking with you soon!
