I’m seeing more crime reports about thefts from open garages, and can draw two conclusions: more people are leaving their garages open, or more thieves are realizing how easy it is to quickly steal from the garage – including from your unlocked car. And of course, access to your home from your garage is often hidden, and can be easier than you think. The lesson here? Keep your garage door closed. The good news? There is technology that can remind you that you left it open. This news story from Tulsa, OK makes the point on open doors very well.
Thieves were caught by a home-security camera, kicking in a door leading into a garage. Before the thieves were caught on tape, the victims were hit twice by thieves: once the back door to their home was kicked in and electronics were stolen, then they left their garage door open while having a dinner party and the thieves rifled through their cars. The second time they kicked in a side garage door and made off with yard work equipment and a generator.

But for some thieves it’s not nearly has hard to keep coming back for more. Police say too many people are making it too easy for thieves who are driving through neighborhoods all over Green Country and essentially finding welcome mats with the message: “Come on in, take whatever you like.”
Fortunately, there is a very powerful addition to the home security arsenal: the wireless garage door sensor for the overhead door.
