How to Setup a Home Security System Using an Apple Watch

If you happened to catch the Apple Watch event a few weeks ago, you may have caught a glimpse of a familiar-looking app in action. Yup, our mobile app is coming to the new device, allowing users to interact with their alarm system without ever having to pull out their phone.

At first glance, the app for the Apple Watch appears to just be a shrunken-down version of the one currently available for smartphones and tablets. That’s not a bad guess, as you’ll still be able to interact and control your alarm system on the watch as you do with on a phone. However, there have been a few new features specifically created for the watch app to make the user experience a little more personal.

Let’s start with “Glances,” a new function that allows you to quickly get an update of what’s going on at your home. Perform a quick swipe on your screen and you’ll see a rundown of your system’s status, door locks or thermostat settings.

“Actionable notifications” are another new addition. When you receive a notification on the watch, you’ll be able to perform a corresponding action immediately, without ever having to open up the app. For example, if you forget to arm your system when you leave for work, you’ll be notified and able to immediately arm it from your watch.

And for those not planning on getting the Apple Watch, don’t worry – we’re working on adding a variety of useful new features such as actionable notifications and more to the Mobile App in the next update.

The Apple Watch is scheduled to release on April 24, so stay tuned. If any more information becomes available, we’ll share it here.

Excellent! I think I have seen mentioned somewhere that one would be able to open the garage with the Apple Watch. How?

Marco you're right! You should be able to open your garage door on the Apple Watch, through your home security app, as long as your security provider supports a garage door opener/lift and you have that equipment.

Downloaded the the App and could not get past the login and passcode. The App appears to have a place to insert the passcode number but the not the login name or userid. Poor interface.

Rick, thank you for letting us know about this login trouble you're having. It sounds like there might be some confusion between your myfrontpoint.com login information, versus your panel information. We're going to have someone reach out to you shortly to figure all that out for you!

Good question! We are looking into Android Wear, however it's not something we are working with at this very moment.

Android watch (samsung) has been out for months now. Apple just came out, so that means you guys have been working with them for sometime now. There is a population out here that use other devices !!! Just made me rethink your company!

ACTIONABLE ITEMS: It would be great if we could tap a button telling the monitoring station to CALL THE POLICE immediately upon receiving an entry alert on our devices -- or have some way of telling FP that we are out of town Day1-Day X and they would immediately call the police vs, having the lag time of a "call & verify" routine.

Great point Geoff! If you are traveling out of town, you can certainly give our Support Team a call and let them know you'd like to police to immediately be sent out if an alarm goes off between Day X and Day XX. We will relay this to our monitoring team and they will note that right on your account! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Are you offering AndroidWear support? I'm a frontpoint customer and despise apple but love my Asus Zenwatch...
