FrontPoint’s Core Values and the Company’s Success

FrontPoint Security began as a dream in 2006, and became a reality when we launched the company in 2007 – three guys in a basement in Washington, DC. Yup, that is the story of how FrontPoint started, and it’s been a remarkable ride so far. We’ve actually led the industry in a number of important areas – and here are a few of them:

  • FrontPoint is the first nationwide alarm company to use 100% safer cellular monitoring in every system we have ever sold. That means there is no vulnerable phone line (or equally vulnerable internet connection) that a burglar can cut to take out your alarm system – or your interactive features.
  • Speaking of interactive monitoring, FrontPoint paved the way over five years ago with 90% of our customers opting for our advanced interactive services, at a time when few companies even understood or offered these features. I’m talking about remote arm/disarm, mobile apps, text and email notifications, video services, and even home automation. We were years ahead of ADT with these offerings.
  • Because of our exceptionally high level of customer service and satisfaction, FrontPoint has the highest customer loyalty (and lowest customer cancellation rate) of any nationwide alarm company. There is ample evidence of this remarkable loyalty in FrontPoint’s online reviews, at sites like Yelp, Epinions, and Angie’s list, where we are the most highly reviewed alarm company you can find.

Fundamental to our success is the role played by our core values, a set of formal behavioral guidelines that steer our actions and thought processes. These values are essential building blocks in how we treat our customers, how we treat each other, how we look at the opportunities available to us, and they help determine how the company is run, both strategically and on a day-to-day basis. Our core values are:

  • Build Trust
  • Dream Big
  • Be Awesome

Clearly we have built trust with our customers, and we continue to do so: there’s just no other way to explain the loyalty and great reviews that keep coming in. And clearly we had to dream big to launch this in the first place, and continue the company’s amazing growth in a crowded and highly competitive industry. And when it comes to being awesome – well, that’s about every person here at FrontPoint just being the best co-workers and service providers that they can be, in every way imaginable. It’s not surprising that FrontPoint was recently named a “Best Place to Work in Virginia,” for the second year in a row!

But I also have a very personal reason to talk about our core values, since they can play a role in our private lives as well. Last month I was fortunate to stand on the roof of South America, meaning the summit of a mountain in Argentina named Aconcagua. At 22,841 feet, Aconcagua is the highest summit in both the Western and Southern hemispheres, and is one of the Seven Summits, the highest points on each of the seven continents.

Mountaineering is a hobby shared by several FrontPoint employees, and I can state with confidence that there will be more trips – and hopefully more summits – in our futures. And not surprisingly, the FrontPoint core values figure largely in these endeavors. After all, building trust with your teammates is imperative on such an adventure. Of course, tackling any of the Seven Summits is all about dreaming big, and every member of the expedition has to be awesome on an individual basis: on a trip like this, one person can make the difference between success and failure for the whole group.

So, look for updates from time to time on our adventures - with more pictures of the FrontPoint flag on distant peaks. And in the meantime, we’ll keep on living our core values every day, as the company continues to grow and prosper. We have the best customers in the world, and we want to keep earning their loyalty and those great reviews through every interaction we have.  FrontPoint, the leader in wireless home security, and the #1 ranked alarm company in the US.

Thanks, Bruce. It's taken a lot of hard work, along with starting with a good business model in the first place - but we can't overemphasize the importance of the core values to our success, as they have been consistently applied.

Congratulations - not only for your personal and professional success, but because you "get it!" I wrote about companies like yours in my book The Value of Core Values:Five Keys to Success through Values-Centered Leadership. You represent a small number of companies that understand the value of core values. Certainly living your core values leads to financial success, but the greatest value lies in the values themselves.

Thanks for the comment Lisa - it's truly an honor to be recognized my such an esteemed author. Living our Core Values is what we do on a day-to-day basis here at FrontPoint Security! Not a single day goes by where someone doesn't say; Dream Big, Build Trust or Be Awesome!

Congratulations on so many fronts, you guys! I have been with you almost from the beginning and it has been fun to watch and a privilege to be part of, even in the bit part role of one individual customer. I can wholeheartedly endorse the service and integrity of the company from my perspective, consistently and without fail for 6 years now! And as noted in this post, almost every web review out there concurs. Frontpoint is in a select group of national businesses that can legitimately claim that. It feels so good to be part of and support win-win businesses and organizations such as FrontPoint! You provide your customers excellent products and services, and quickly win our respect and TRUST, which then gives back financially and in goodwill, which provides stable and consistent and growing income for the company, which allows you to be a growing employer who provides good jobs and careers (congrats on those employer awards!)... And done right, all this carries forth and compounds in myriad ways both seen and unseen to help create even more AWESOME all the time. A virtuous cycle! So thank you for being business people with principles and a heart! I have every confidence Frontpoint will continue to prosper by doing well by all its stakeholders (customers, employees, principles, environment, etc) and along the way have you can have fun plus continue to feel very good about what you are doing -- being a positive force in the world. I am so happy to be your customer and and am very proud of you guys! Also, I really love your three simple guiding principles. Once you think about them a bit, you quickly realize they are deceptively simple because they pretty much apply to all aspects of life. I have saved this article (largely for these principles and your candid in-context, REAL-WORLD discussion of their contribution to the company's huge and growing success!). It must also be noted you guys accomplished all this in a protracted bad economy!!! A lot of blood sweat and tears to boot, but looking back, I can imagine the sense of accomplishment already, while obviously still looking forward to even more progress. Thanks for sharing some of your personal notes with us. Congratulations on the Aconcagua summit! What an amazing experience that must have been, and such a huge personal accomplishment and fortitude test! It is really great people in the company can do that together. We generally spend at least a third of our lives with coworkers and few things would be better for bonding and trust building than an outside shared challenge and achievement such as that. Some of the best business ideas come from trips like this, I have heard; some space, clearing of the mind, and just being unconnected for awhile can do amazing things for the mind and soul plus give some much needed perspective. Anyway, please keep us updated on future climbs, and please stay awesome!

Alan - thanks so much. As a staunch and vocal supporter of FrontPoint over the years, you are our favorite kind of customer: you use your FrontPoint system to the fullest, and you are happy to tell others about how it gives you peace of mind. And since several of us here at FrontPoint have spoken with you directly over the years, you really do feel like part of the family! It's support like yours that inspires us to keep on trying our hardest to set a higher bar, not only for the home alarm industry, but for ourselves. Thanks - you bring out the best in us!

I just finished my 3 year contract with Frontpoint. I also just renewed another 3 year contract, even though I could have continued month to month. I contacted Frontpoint to inquire about additional equipment for renewing. This is important, Frontpoint didn't ask me to renew the contract, I asked them. That's not the norm these days. Such an amazing company and outstanding service. Frontpoint is dedicated to these values and it shows. I'm one of the many happy customers!
