Home Security System Needed – Homeowners Walk in on Burglary in Progress

Imagine coming home during the day to find a burglary in progress - at your house. That’s exactly what happened to a Manchester, NH couple just last month. The good news is that police pursued and caught the intruder when he ran from the scene - and nobody was hurt.

Manchester police said a couple, returning home with their newborn baby, walked into their house to find a burglary in progress. Police said when the couple entered their Highland Street home around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, they found a burglar carrying a cardboard box containing items that were stolen from the home.

Talk about a nightmare scenario. As I’ve often posted, most burglaries are now happening during the day, so the timing of the event is not a surprise. It’s just awful to think of your space being violated at a time of such complete vulnerability.

What Happened Next

Authorities said when the burglar saw the homeowners, he fled the scene. Officers were provided with a description of the burglar and began searching the area with the help of a K9 officer. Police said a man matching the description of the burglar was spotted getting into a cab on Amherst Street. Police pulled the cab over and arrested the suspect, identified as Shawn Stayrook, 27, of Manchester. Manchester police said a box that Stayrook was carrying at the time of his arrest contained items stolen from the victims’ home.
