Protect Your Home from Package Thieves

As an online shopaholic (curse you one-click checkout!), I get really excited knowing there’s a package just waiting on my doorstep. I can only imagine how distraught I’d be if I came home to find that my package was stolen.

Unfortunately, thousands of people across the country have experienced this. “Package thieves” are plucking freshly-delivered packages right from doorsteps. Some of these crooks are even following the delivery trucks!

The good news is that many of these package thieves have been caught and arrested – like this woman and this guy. And the common theme in these and other package thief arrest stories is the presence of security cameras.

Security Camera Protection

A security camera is a great way to watch over your delivered packages, and is even more effective when part of a home alarm system.

If you’re a Frontpoint customer, you can set up your camera to be automatically activated upon movement (and to send a notification), so when the delivery guy drops off your package, you’ll know. You could then ask a neighbor or friend to pick up the package.

If worst comes to worst, your camera will also be activated should a package thief swoop by. That footage can be used to help the police capture the culprit.

It’s unfortunate that thieves have made it almost necessary to protect your deliveries, but at least it’s easier with a security camera.

Hi Kim, the Outdoor Wireless Camera is priced at $399.99. Let me know if you have any other questions about the camera, or anything else!

This is truly a real problem. I have a good friend that has had this happen way too many times.

My boyfriend and I were talking a lot about installing a surveillance cam beside our gate because our packages never seem to arrive. Someone could probably be stealing them. Can't wait to find out who!

I want to add an outdoor wireless camera to my system. I want to put it on at boat dock about 220' away from house. Just not sure if it will work that far from the base.

Sam, we do suggest you keep everything within 100 feet of the panel if it's possible. We do have range extender kits we can provide you with if you really would like to try out moving the camera further. Something to keep in mind is that the cameras are wireless so your wireless internet will need to also be present out at your dock for the camera to work properly. Hope this helps!

I've seen a cameras (at Best Buy & Sam's) that would work well with my home. How can I determine their compatibility with my alarm system?

Joni, great question. We currently work with the Alarm.com cameras that we sell and well as a couple other Alarm.com cameras you can purchase elsewhere. Please call us to find out if we can support a specific camera you might be interested in purchasing at 1-877-602-5276. Thank you!

Yes, Its good to have an outdoor CCTV camera ( http://www.technowavegroup.com/security/cctv/mono-dome-d25 ) to check on who is at the door and it also helps to drop unwanted guests. I am using Mono dome D25 from Technowave Group, Dubai at my home and it has good features. It has helped me a lot to get rid of unwanted guests at my work hours, when I work from home.
