FrontPoint Picks: Late Starter's Gardening Tips

I have a confession to make. I have a black thumb. I never thought I had a black thumb until I tried to start an herb garden from scratch and all of my plants died.

I also tried buying plants that were more mature. My garden still died. Maybe it’s just herbs, or maybe it’s me?

Either way, every summer I am inspired to start another herb garden -- not from scratch because I learned my lesson. The lack of sunshine in my current home makes it pretty difficult for me, but that doesn't mean others out there want to channel their inner gardener and take on the challenge! It's a little too late to start from seedlings, but today’s FrontPoint Picks offers tips for those of us who are inspired to try every year with the best plants available at the garden center.

Gardening gadgets have come a long way since the ol’ plastic owl – there is now an electronic version that hoots and turns its head. Here are some garden gadgets that will certainly make your neighbor’s jealous.

How to Compost in Your Apartment

This one is close to me, because I live in an apartment. I can’t imagine having a ton of compost around (can you imagine the smell? Yuck), but I could see this working if you have a small outdoor space. It also gives tips for what to add and what not to add, which face it, is really important. And it’s not just tips for apartment dwellers!

Herb Basics from

This all started with herbs, so I’d be remised if I didn’t include some tips that are herb-garden-specific. While this list includes many of the same tips from the checklist, everything is specific to herbs. There are also links to other guides, like this one all about Crafts with Herbs. Sign me up!
